After qualifying for the ATP 250 in Metz, Wawrinka will face world number 4 Medvedev in a very good second round poster.
The Swiss Stan Wawrinka (284th in the world), out of qualifying, beat in two sets the Portuguese Joao Sousa (55th) 7-6 (7/1), 6-2 in the first round of the ATP 250 tournament in Metz on Wednesday.
In the second round, the former world number 3 (in 2014) and three-time Grand Slam winner will face the tournament’s No.1 seed, Russian Daniil Medvedev (4th player in the world), who will enter the competition on this occasion.
On Wednesday, after a first set in which neither player dropped his serve, Wawrinka made a noticeable difference in the decisive game, which he won 7 points to 1. He then calmly managed the second set and took his opponent’s service twice before winning on his third match point (6-2).
