BASKETBALL – The COSPN almost eliminated from the Elite 16 of the Road to BAL following its defeat (53-84) against Ferroviaro Da Beira on the second day |

Antananarivo, November 23, 4:30 p.m. – The National Police Sports Club (COSPN) ashore. The champion team of Madagascar suffered a second setback in the Elite 16, second qualifying round of the Basketball african league (BAL) group F, in South Africa. Samy Olivier Raharison’s side lost 53-84 to Mozambique’s Ferroviaro Da Beira on Tuesday afternoon at Ellis Park Arena in Johannesburg.

⭕The Mozambican railwaymen were too strong for the Malagasy policemen and the score reflected this difference between the two teams. During the first quarter, the gap between the two teams was already 18 points (8 to 26). This widened in the second quarter (23 to 54), while the Ferroviaro Da Beira scored 28 points against 15 for the COSPN.

⭕The Mozambicans managed their advantage during the last two quarters (36-67 and 53-84). Both teams scored 13-13 and 17-17 respectively in the third and fourth quarters.

⭕The COSPN was feverish in defense. This is in addition to the lack of precision of Elly Randriamampionona and Livio Ratianarivo. Of 39 shots attempted inside the 6.75m, the Malagasy team managed only 14, or 35% two-point shots. That stat still hurts when it comes to three-point shots. Of 42 shootings attempted, the COSPN scored only eight, or 9% success.

⭕With this new defeat, the COSPN almost bid farewell to qualifying for the final phase of the BAL this season. After two defeats in a row, the champion of Madagascar occupies the last place of pool B of group F while the first two of each pool only reach the semi-finals.

⭕The representative of Madagascar will attempt the last stand in his last match of the group against Matero Magic of Zambia, this Thursday at 12:30 p.m. Malagasy time.
