BASKETBALL – The COSPN, forced to win against Ferroviario Da Beria, to hope to stay in the race for the final phase of the BAL after its defeat against the City Oilers |

Antananarivo, November 23, 11:32 a.m. – Catch-up session for the National Police Sports Club (COSPN). Back to the wall, the police no longer have a choice and must win their second match of pool B, group F, to be able to keep the hope of qualifying for the semi-finals of the Elite 16, at the Road to BAL, second qualifying phase for the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The Malagasy team will play against the Mozambicans of Ferroviario Da Beria, this Wednesday at 12:30 p.m., at the Ellis Park Arena in Johannesburg, South Africa.

⭕On Tuesday, the reigning champion of Madagascar was beaten by the City Oilers of Uganda (59 to 71) when entering the competition. Standing at the end, he was dominated by the Ugandan formation which had won three quarters time.

⭕In the first quarter, the score was 22 to 11 for the opponents of the police. The two teams entered the locker room with a score of 47 to 26.

⭕Back from the locker room, the COSPN tries to turn things around. The proteges of Jean de Dieu Randrianarivelo, coach of the Malagasy club, proved to be more skilful at the basket and strengthened their defense. They won the third quarter, 23 to 11. At the start of the fourth quarter, the difference was only nine points (49 to 58).

⭕But Livio Ratianarivo and his teammates failed to turn the game around. The defensive tactics imposed by the Malagasy coach were indeed respected by the players, but they lacked shooting skills. Elly Randriamampionona et al scored just five baskets against six and a half for the City Oilers during the last quarter.

⭕Only the two clubs that come first and second advance to the semi-finals and can claim qualification for the final phase of the BAL, which will take place in Rwanda. Three teams can get their ticket to the African Basketball Champions League. These are the two finalists and the one that will win the small final.
