BasketballZion Williamson will have to watch his line
In the NBA, the New Orleans Pelicans superstar’s new contract has a special clause prohibiting the player from gaining too much weight.
No. 1 draft pick in 2019, New Orleans Pelicans insider Zion Williamson has only played 85 games in the North American Basketball League (NBA) so far, out of a total of 246 potential meetings. Blame it on recurring injuries (knee and foot), which would be mainly linked to the weight problems of the 22-year-old player, who varies between 130 and 150 kilos according to different sources.
193 million over five years
To minimize the risks, the Louisiana franchise has established a special clause in the new contract recently signed by its star player. According to the American journalist Christian Clark of “NoLa.com”, Williamson (who measures 198 cm) must watch his line: if his weight exceeds 295 pounds (about 134 kilos) during regular checks carried out by the Pelicans staff, the player will lose part of the $193 million of his brand new five-year contract. What certainly motivate him to maintain his ideal weight.
Despite his injuries and the short time spent on the NBA floors (he missed the entire 2021-2022 season), Zion Williamson has enormous potential. The interior has a career average of 25.7 points and above all 60.4% shooting success, which places him among the best in the NBA in this category. Better still: with an average of 0.81 points scored per minute played in the NBA, Williamson ranks second in all NBA history, behind Philadelphia Sixers pivot Joel Embiid (0.83).
