Benoît Paire finally wins a match –

Benoît Paire won his first match since May by beating the German Peter Gojowczyk (110th) in two sets, 7-5, 6-4 on Monday in the first round of the Washington hard court tournament.

Paire, 33, left the top 100 in the world (112th) on Monday after a series of six defeats in the first round. He had not won a match since the Geneva tournament two and a half months ago. The Avignonnais, who was still 20th in the world at the start of 2020 before the coronavirus pandemic, will meet the young Dane Holger Rune, 28th in the world at 19, in the next round.
