Davis Love III appoints two new assistants for the Presidents Cup

Davis Love III has chosen to expand his staff by adding two new names to assist him in Quail Hollow, North Carolina, at the end of September.

Webb Simpson and Steve Stricker have been named assistant captain Davis Love III for the United States, the tournament announced on Tuesday. The two men complete the staff in which is Zach Johnson, the future captain of the Ryder Cup in 2023 and Fred Couples.

At 36, Webb Simpson, the youngest on the team, will make his debut as an assistant. A seven-time TOUR winner, Simpson lives in Charlotte and is a member of the Quail Hollow Club.

Stricker’s essential experience

Despite his lack of experience as a captain, Simpson has been on six U.S. Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup teams. Stricker, meanwhile, has been on eight teams, including captaining the United States team in last year’s historic Ryder Cup victory over Europe.

Stricker also captained the Presidents Cup in 2017 in a sweeping 19-11 win at Liberty National Golf Club with Love and Couples alongside as assistants.

The Presidents Cup will take place from September 20 to 25, on the same dates as the French Open. The 2008 Masters winner, South African Trevor Immelman, will captain the international team with Mike Weir, KJ Choi, Geoff Ogilvy and Camilo Villegas assisting him.
