The Raf welcomes Bordeaux, Saturday August 6, on behalf of the 2nd day of Ligue 2.
Bordeaux is not done with its administrative problems
Reintegrated into Ligue 2 a few days before the start of the championship, after being demoted to National by the DNCG in June, Bordeaux is not yet completely rid of its extra-sporting problems.
Even if the essential is saved, there is still talk of money on the side of the Haillan estate. Tuesday, August 2, the DNCG has indeed pronounced against the club a framework of payroll and transfer compensation. This means that, before being able to recruit, the Girondins must part with players or accept pay cuts, in order to reduce their payroll.
It is for this reason that the contracts of Yohann Barbet, Vitali Nsimba and Jonas Lossl, three potential reinforcements, have still not been approved. The first two named have however carried out most of the preparation under the orders of David Guion and his staff.
However, the DNCG authorized the extension or the signing of a first professional contract for several young players. Just like the exercise of the option to buy Danylo Ignatenko, the Ukrainian midfielder on loan since the start of the year by Shakhtar Donetsk.
The youth in power
This is the consequence of Bordeaux’s financial problems. Unable to recruit and the desire to push some undesirables out, the Aquitaine club has confidence at the start of the season in many young players from the local team. Thus, Logan Delaurier-Chaubet, Dilane Bakwa, Malcom Bokele, Junior Mwanga and Jacques Ekomié, holders against Valenciennes on the first day (0-0), all had their first professional match of their career. And they could foul Paul-Lignon’s lawn again on Saturday August 6th.
In this period of uncertainty, the young shoots from the reserve have an opportunity to shine to gain playing time. But depending on the possibilities of recruitment in the coming weeks, they could also be relegated to supporting roles.
David Guion, record coach
Appointed in February to succeed Vladimir Petkovic, David Guion failed to redress the sporting situation of Bordeaux, who finished in last place last season. Confirmed as a coach, the native of Le Mans found a championship where he had revealed himself.
For his first season as head coach in a professional division, he had indeed led Reims to the rise in Ligue 1. It was in 2017-18, and he had also managed to embellish the accession of a Ligue 2 title and points record in the division.
Bordeaux back to second level, 30 years later
With its 6 French championship titles and 69 seasons in the elite, Bordeaux is a historic club in French football. It had been 30 years since the Girondins had designated the second floor, which was then called Division 2. In 1992, the Marines and Blanc had risen directly to the top flight, a year after a demotion following a bankruptcy filing . Before 20th place in the 2021-2022 season, we had to go back to 1960 to find traces of the last sporting relegation.
