Former Italy coach Franco Smith will be head coach of the Glasgow Warriors from next season, the Scottish club announced on Tuesday.
The 50-year-old South African, selected nine times for the Springboks during his playing career in the late 1990s, signed up for a two-year contract.
At the head of the Squadra Azzurra between 2020 and 2021, Smith had been replaced by New Zealander Kieran Crowley without having won the slightest victory in the Six Nations Tournament.
He has since held the position of high performance director with the Italian Federation.
Glasgow plays in the United Rugby Championship (URC), the championship bringing together Irish, Welsh, Scottish, Italian and South African teams.
