After two opening defeats, the VHA (Villeurbanne Handball) hopes to snatch its first victory of the season in the Proligue championship, this Friday against Strasbourg at 8:30 p.m. at the Salle des Gratte-Ciel.
Like its opponent of the day Strasbourg, the VHA started badly this season of Proligue, the 2nd division of French handball, with two defeats, against Dijon and Bordeaux.
After snatching his hold on the final day, final season, Villeurbanne hope that this year will continue more quietly, but for that, it will be necessary to unlock the counter of victories.
The old pivot of Barjotsbronze medalist at the 1997 World Championship with the French team, and now VHA coach (since 2019) Semir Zuzo recognizes it: victory is already imperative.
“We have ten new players, so even if we did a lot of preparation by going to Montenegro and doing a lot of group cohesion, what the team lacks today is experience. I hope that we will acquire this collective experience very quickly. And indeed, this match against Strasbourg is the match of the losers! Woe to him who loses, since he will be three defeats away. I think the pressure is more on our shoulders than on theirs, because we got stronger at the start of the season, and we have ambitions that they haven’t determined. So it would be a fault on our part not to win against Strasbourg“.
The VHA is gaining momentum and hopes to establish itself once again in the landscape of French handball. The flooring in the Skyscrapers room is brand new. The workforce has been reinforced with ten recruits, and now has six international players, three of whom are preparing to play in the next World Cup, in Poland and Sweden.
