Handball: Limoges climbs the ladder

After making a strong impression against Toulouse last week (33-31), the Limougeauds want to continue this Friday evening against Istres during the third day of Liqui Moly Starligue.

A victory and a defeat. With two points on the clock, Limoges Handball wants to offer its first away success of the season, this September 23, in Istres. Currently eighth in the Liqui Moly Starligue, the Limougeauds are off to a rather reassuring start compared to last season, when they finished in thirteenth position.

Raise the level and the requirement

LH have only been in the top flight for two years. Last year, the harvest was not enough to delight the staff or the players. 8 wins, 2 draws, 20 losses… The Hauts-Viennois even had to fight, and rely on the defeats of their competitors in the last days to maintain themselves.

Very quickly, the big players in the club have new ambitions, more daring. On June 6, a statement is published on the club’s website where the president Christophe Racaud and the executive director Alain Aubard speak about the coming months. The two men present their objectives for this 2022/2023 season. “After these first two years of learning, we reaffirm our ambition which is to establish ourselves in the best championship in the world and to reach the top 6 (European places) within 3 years. We are giving ourselves the means to do so by significantly increasing our budget thanks to the growing support of our partners and the public.”commented Christophe Racaud.

The staff also presented big changes. The LH has aged: the recruitment of players is based above all on the criterion of experience. Now, the average age of the workforce is over 28 years old. The club have announced the arrival of Alberto Entrerrios and José Manuel Sierra to start “a new cycle”. They had carte blanche to renew part of the team. Limoges Handball wants “progress step by step”. One of them will be to win his third game of the season, tomorrow night against Istres, currently fifteenth in the championship.
