Matsuyama withdraws from Hero Challenge due to injury

Former winner Hideki Matsuyama has withdrawn from next week’s Hero World Challenge hosted by Tiger Woods in the Bahamas due to injury, a tournament official said on Tuesday. The Japanese, who won the event in 2016, has suffered a number of injuries this year and recently pulled out of the Houston Open with a neck injury.

The decision not to participate in the Hero World Challenge from December 1-4 in Albany is the sixth withdrawal this season for the winner of the Masters 2021. He had already withdrawn from the Players Championship field in March, before the first round, due of a persistent back injury. He then withdrew from the Texas Open a week before his title defense at the Augusta Masters.

The 19th in the world, eight-time winner on the PGA Tour, will be replaced in the 20-man champion from Albany by Canadian Corey Conners.
