Maxime Machenaud: “Racing? It’s not a rugby region”

Arrived in Bayonne this summer from Racing 92, French international scrum-half Maxime Machenaud has decided to take on a whole new challenge.

The latter spoke in the columns of the Sud-Ouest newspaper to discuss this new adventure with the Basque club.

Maxime Machenaud arrived injured in Bayonne. He has not yet played a single match in his new colors. This will be the case this weekend against Bordeaux-Bègles at Jean-Dauger.

He concedes that arriving in Bayonne injured was something very frustrating for him. Extract :

“It was doubly frustrating. There was the injury, and coming to a new club but being on the sidelines. Relationships, you create them in the field, in training… Me, I was closer to physical preparation and physiotherapists, that’s what’s unfortunate. Finally, unhappy… I added a lot with them. »

Asked about his decision to leave Racing 92 for Bayonne, Maxime Machenaud explains why he decided to embark on this new adventure. Extract :

“I felt that it was this challenge that I needed, this region, this enthusiasm. I have never known a club with such great enthusiasm. In ten years at Racing, I have experienced enormous things, with supporters who were there but not as numerous as here. This is not a rugby region. I wanted to find this. It was the first criterion with the athlete. Afterwards, we were told that the good of this region, and I can confirm it. »

To conclude, Maxime Machenaud explains that he has nothing to prove to anyone except himself. Extract :

“I haven’t determined to prove it to anyone but myself. I am always looking for progress. I will be retired when I stop playing rugby. These are all the attitudes on a daily basis, in training, in investment, which have shown that you still want to be efficient. It will also happen in the game. Most people see that. »
