Podcast: Jeep Wagoneer and Volkswagen Golf R put to the test

As part of Le Guide de l’auto on QUB Radio, Antoine Joubert and Germain Goyer gave their impressions of the recently tested 2022 Volkswagen Golf R and 2022 Jeep Wagoneer.

For his part, Germain was frankly amazed by the mechanics of the Golf R. Not only is it powerful with its 315 horsepower, but its chassis is excellent. However, he does not appreciate the behavior of the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission on takeoff. In his eyes, the manual is the box to choose. Although it’s a sports car, he feels there are few compromises given that it’s practical thanks to its tailgate and four-wheel drive.

The Golf R is not a perfect car. He blames him for the operation of the infotainment system, which is lent and poorly designed, as well as the too low distribution of the model in North America.

As for Antoine, he got behind the wheel of the Jeep Wagoneer a few months after first driving the Grand Wagoneer. He found the Wagoneer to be better balanced overall, and it did so for a lower bill of $50,000. It’s powered by the 5.7L HEMI V8 engine that does the job well and still consumes less fuel than the 6.4L HEMI V8. The Wagoneer will eventually get the Hurricane inline six-cylinder engine.

He says he preferred driving the Wagoneer to driving the Grand Wagoneer.

The Car Guideit’s every Saturday at 10 a.m. on QUB Radio, repeating on Sunday at 6 p.m.
