PSG puts pressure on the mayor of Paris and plans to leave the Parc des Princes

This is a new step in the direction that Qatar Sports Investments wishes to give to its PSG for the next few years. The owner of the latter has held discussions with at least two American investment funds to sell a small stake (10-15%) of the capital of the French champion as The Team revealed last Saturday.

The shareholder, in order to continue its development, also wishes to buy the Parc des Princes, property of the city of Paris, for which it has a 30-year emphyteutic lease. Except that the price asked by the Town Hall to sell its legendary stadium at Porte de Saint-Cloud is considered exorbitant by the French champion, around 350 million euros, especially since PSG has already invested 85 M€ in the part of the renovation of the enclosure for Euro 2016.

“We would have found a reasonable agreement but today the Paris council is on another planet”

Paris deserves a better stadium. My first option is not to move. But the city of Paris pushes us to move », Named Nasser al-Khelaïfi on Wednesday in Bloomberg. A statement that has a surprise at PSG as much as at the town hall of Paris. “J.I wasn’t expecting these words or the timingconfides to us Pierre Rabadan, the assistant for sports and the Olympic Games at the town hall. We have been talking for a long time with PSG about the expansion work at the Park. One day they told us that they wanted to become owners to make them. We then told them to make us an offer. They came back with a very small sum. We stayed there. The Parisian financial proposal would be well below the 350 M€ mentioned.

Poissy and the Saint-Cloud racecourse in appeal

If his first idea is to stay at the Park with the ambition to enlarge it to 60,000 places (48,000 currently), the Parisian boss is thinking about other solutions. Two alternative avenues emerge: becoming the resident club of the Stade de France (80,000 seats) whose current concession (in which the State is a stakeholder) ends in 2025 or finding land to build a new enclosure.

On two identified sites “, we say in the entourage of QSI. It would first be Poissy where PSG will open its new training center in 2023. PSG has 70 hectares and has only used about half of it so far, so it benefits from a sufficient land reserve for this project. Except that this option is not unanimous. ” The axis of communication which rests on our commune is already sufficiently congested and there is no service by public transport. I would do anything for my opponent », confides Arnaud Péricard, the mayor of Saint-Germain-en-Laye.

The other place would be the Saint-Cloud racecourse, already considered in the past for the club’s training center. France Galop, which takes care of the management of Parisian racecourses, does not rule out parting with it, because of the number of racecourses in Paris: Saint-Cloud therefore, Auteuil, Longchamps.

The Qatari owners are ready to invest 500 million euros in the Park if they become owners.
