After two editions canceled in 2020 and 2021, the organizers of the Armand-Vaquerin challenge are adapting (once again) to offer the return of this rugby event eagerly awaited by oval ball enthusiasts in South Aveyron and in the Tarn.
The 29e edition of the Armand-Vaquerin challenge is making a comeback this year after two off years. In 2020, the 27e edition had been canceled due to the health crisis. In 2021, for the 28e edition, the organizers had managed to maintain a single meeting scheduled in Saint-Affrique between two heavyweights of the Top 14 Castres Olympique and Montpellier Hérault Rugby. But they had to resign themselves to canceling in a hurry after the Montpellier package. This failed to find a new opponent for Castres.
So for the great return of the Vaquerin challenge, as much to say that they don’t let go to offer again three beautiful evenings of rugby Fr South Aveyron and in the Tarn in the last fortnight of august. But, once again, they had to adapt… especially for the 3e meeting organized in the Tarn.
The Tarn meeting moved to Mazamet
For his return, the 29e Vaquerin edition offers for its first day organized in Camaresthe Wednesday August 17 at 6:30 p.m., a friendly match between Beziers (Pro D2) to Albi (National).
For the second day, the municipal stadium of Holy Africa will welcome, friday august 19 at 8:45 p.m., the club of Brive in Top 14 against the English of Bristol. In the opening match, at 6:30 p.m., the RCSA will face LSA XV.
For the third and final day, scheduled for Wednesday August 24 at 8 p.m. in the Tarn, if the two teams are identical, i.e. the Castres Olympic (Top 14) opposed to the Irish of connacht, it is the place that changes. The match will not take place as planned in Lacaune but in Mazamet.
” Despite the forces that have tried to find a solution, the match on Wednesday August 24 between Castres Olympique and Connacht Rugby will unfortunately not take place in Lacaune but in Mazamet », explain the organizers of the Vaquerin challenge. ” The Camarès and Lacaune stadiums were refused their matches because the stadiums were downgraded. For Camarès, thanks to tough negotiations and above all the promise of a large preparation system on and around the stadium for D-Day, the file was finally accepted. Unfortunately, and despite an incredible investment from the Castres team and elected officials from Lacaune, the same is not true for the Lacaune stadium. »
Price decision with the teams
” So, instead of having the match canceled, the decision was taken in agreement with the teams and the members of the office, to move the match to a stadium without any worries for this year, and so it’s Mazamet “, continue the organizers who thank in advance the enthusiasts of the oval ball and the challenge” to remain faithful to the event “.
And to conclude: We are of course not forgetting Lacaune which remains a historic place, and we hope that everything will be done for 2023 so that the operational stadium is for the 30th anniversary of the Armand-Vaquerin challenge. »
