After a canceled match in three sets, Veronika Kudermetova won against Camila Giorgi for her entry into the WTA tournament in San José, of which she is the seed number 9.

Veronika Kudermetova ended up having the last word. After a duel lasting almost three hours, the number 9 seed of the WTA tournament in San José got the better of Camila Giorgi. The 19th in the world started with a bang with the break obtained from the first game but the Italian knew how to be opportunistic in order to call the score. Indeed, on her second break point, the 29th in the world was able to return to four games everywhere before taking her opponent to the decisive game. However, the Russian only left two points for the Italian to take the lead after the first set. Camila Giorgi’s response was immediate with the break obtained at the end of the first game then jealously guarded against two equalizing balls in one game everywhere obtained but missed by Veronika Kudermetova. The latter was able to get her late service game in order to return to three games everywhere.

Kudermetova goes for wear

But she launched a series of four consecutive breaks which allowed Camila Giorgi to serve to win the set. What the Italian went for without firing a shot, when the opportunity arose. The last round then saw Veronika Kudermetova hit hard from the start, giving three games to nothing, not without having dismissed a break point at the start of the set. An advantage that the Russian could have made fruitful with a little more success on the three double break points noted in the fourth game. But, after seeing a match point escape her on the engagement of Camila Giorgi, the 19th player world has lost track. The Italian took her chance to return to five games everywhere. But, at the gates of the deciding game, it was Veronika Kudermetova who made the decision on her opponent’s serve (7-6, 4-6, 7-5 in 2h57 ‘). The Russian will face for a place in the quarterfinals Beatriz Haddad Maia or Claire Liu.
