Tennis, WTA – Tokyo 2022 tournament: Samsonova beats Muguruza

Russian Liudmila Samsonova brutally beat Spain’s Garbine Muguruza, seeded n°3 (6-4, 6-2) and reached the semi-finals of the Tokyo tournament on Friday night session at the Ariake Coliseum & Ariake Tennis Forest Park in Tokyo.

Samsonova, 30th in the world at the WTA, will face Chinese Shuai Zhang in the semi-finals of the Tokyo Open.

Earlier in the tournament, the Russian player had dominated the Kazakh Elena Rybakina, seeded n°8, without being worried at the score (6-2, 6-4), and had won against the Chinese Xinyu Wang (7-6 [5]6-3).

Muguruza, ranked 12th in the WTA, had largely dominated the Greek qualifier Despina Papamichail (6-4, 6-2).
