The German Fed is not letting go. Very critical of Fifa after the ban on wearing the “One Love” armband during World Cup matches, it decided to place the logo of this campaign in favor of inclusion and diversity in a very visible way during of the press conference of his players, this Friday.
The DFB has in fact replaced the logo of the supermarket chain REWE, which has rightly broken its partnership with the Federation because of the controversy surrounding this armband. She thus seized “the chance, within the framework of the almost daily press conferences in Qatar, to maintain her position on the “One Love” campaign”, she explained in a press release.
Behind Kai Havertz and Julian Brandt, the two Nationalmannschaft players present to the media on Friday, thus appeared, among the other sponsors of the federation, the One Love logo, a multicolored heart, in favor of inclusion and diversity. Manuel Neuer wanted to wear this inclusive armband, but the Germans had given up on it, faced with the threat of possible sporting sanctions.
Before the first match against Japan, lost 2-1, the eleven starting players of Germany had posed for the official photo with their hands in front of their mouths, mimicking a gag against the ban on demonstrating in favor of diversity. A gesture clearly turned against Fifa.
In the stands, German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser wore the One Love armband, alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino. The Germans, like the Danes, have been at the forefront in this fight since the start of the competition.
