If the poster between the French Stadium and the RC Toulon Saturday November 26 (9 p.m.) attracts attention, the latter will especially be marked by the great return of the RCT winger Gabin Villeliere.

Injured ankle in Challenge Cup final lost to Lyons (30-12) on May 27, the former Rouen player was forced to miss the resumption of the championship, as well as the last two meetings of the XV of France, in Japan this summer, and for the fall tour. “I was in tremendous pain. I could hardly run anymore, I was incapable of it over a medium distance, ”said Gabin Villière.

Franck Azéma: “Gabin is Gabin, there is only one”

After undergoing a new operation due to a complication last October, the twirling winger was finally able to return to service at the start of last week. To the delight of his manager Franck Azema who showed himself particularly dithyrambic at his risk. “Gabin is Gabin, there is only one. It’s his quality, the temperament he has, it’s the mind, he’s an extraordinary player, enthuses the ex-coach of Clermont.

“From the first training sessions, he is able to be above the standards that a team can offer. We know the fighter he is. It is an example value”. As soon as he arrived in Toulon in 2019, Gabin Villière quickly conquered his world, becoming an essential executive. Witness his first selection, crowned with a try, with the XV of France, on November 28, 2020 against Italy (victory 36-5). While just a year earlier, he was evolving in Federal 1 (3e division at the time) near Rouen.

Gabin Villière is a leader in Toulon

A meteoric rise, worthy of the most beautiful stories, certainly. But for Franck Azéma, it’s only a fair reward. “He is someone who speaks more and more in the group, but he does not need that either, because he is legitimate thanks to his actions on the ground”, insists the latter.

“That’s how you are recognized as a leader. If you talk a lot, but you don’t offer much on the pitch, it doesn’t last long. Gabin is someone who constantly applies what is said, he is effective in what he does in training, but also in matches at the highest level. He is therefore legitimate in this role of leader”. A status to be confirmed, from Saturday, on the occasion of the trip to the dolphin of the Toulouse stadium.
