Transfers: Amadou Onana (Lille) to Everton, it’s imminent

Unless there is an unlikely turnaround, Amadou Onana should soon be an Everton player. The Belgian international midfielder (20 years old) is now very close to signing up for five seasons with the Toffees. West Ham have long been the favorites in this case, the London club having made three offers, the last, Tuesday, at 35 M € plus bonuses of up to 5 M €. But they failed to come to an agreement with the player and his entourage, opening the door to competition. This is what Everton, who were courting him in the same way as Leicester, took advantage.

The club coached by Frank Lampard drew a first offer on Wednesday, lower than that proposed by the Hammers. Above all, certain conditions for reaching the bonuses were deemed unattainable by the LOSC. But the Toffees raised their offer on Thursday evening (€36 million plus €4 in any bonuses as well as 20% on any capital gain) and this Friday morning all the parties were confident of the conclusion of an agreement in the day.

A strongly renewed Lille environment

Originally, the great midfielder (1.95m) planned to continue his progression at LOSC, which partly canceled allowing him to join the Red Devils (he obtained his 1st selection in June against the Netherlands) . A club with which he played 42 matches last season, in all competitions, even if he rarely started (15 times).

With the end of Xeka’s contract and the departure to PSG of Renato Sanches, a boulevard opened up before him in the Lille midfield. But the English market took off and the offers became hard to refuse for all parties. For Lille, this is a golden operation for a player bought for only €7 million (according to LOSC) last summer in Hamburg, even if the German club has a percentage of the capital gain revealed between 15 and 20%.

Onana should travel this weekend to England, and he will therefore not be part of the group which will start the L1 season against Auxerre on Sunday. The pair in the midfield should therefore be the one who started in the last warm-up match against Cadiz, namely Benjamin André and the young Carlos Baleba (18), revelation of the preseason, who had arrived in January from the football school Brasseries du Cameroun. LOSC has thought about recruiting in a sector where it will have lost three of its four players from last year (Sanches, Xeka, Onana). Only Jonas Martin has so far arrived.
