270 players, it will probably be necessary to add some last minute registrations, to participate in the international open tennis tournament of Val-André, which will take place until Monday, August 8 on the clay courts of the Admiralty Park. “A higher attendance than the last edition, in 2019, which also had eleven days of competition”, confides David Boulin, president of the club, organizer of this event registered in the national circuits of major tournaments.
Ten tables were opened for the occasion, under the direction of two referees, Claude Déprez and Xavier Reynaud, who noted with satisfaction the return to women’s competition of the two finalists of the 2021 mini-tournament, Audrey Albie and Mallaurie Noël, and that of Irina Ramialison, winner in 2020. Among men, local court regulars have also signed for the 2022 edition: these are Lucas Poullain, Jurgeng Briand and Samuel Brosset, finalist in 2021.
Five referees and 20 volunteers
The success of the tournament is certainly linked to the very high level sports tables, but also to the involvement of the chair umpires, five in number this year, regional and national. As well as the commitment of volunteers from the Pléneuf-Val-André Tennis association. “Once again this year, there are about twenty of us who are present on deck every day,” underlines the president. Among them, the pitch maintenance managers, Daniel and Thierry, as well as teams from the company Faisol, a specialist in clay court maintenance, have been present at the tournament for many years.
On the sporting level, the ladies’ finals are scheduled for Monday August 8, at the start of the afternoon, and the men’s finals at 4 p.m.
