the essential
Villeneuvois high school students from Couffignal-Leygues high school, all volleyball players, will participate in the UNSS Asian Cup, which will take place in February 2023 in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia.

Supported by Estelle Doste, PE teacher at the Couffignal-Leygues high school and kingpin of the ALV (Amicale Laïque Volleyball) and Martine Aubert, the project of participating in the UNSS Asian Cup is becoming a reality for volleyball players from this Villeneuve school. It is well put together. All that remains now is to finance it to enable all these young people to live a very beautiful human adventure on the Asian continent.

“Basically, this project started from a joke with Michel Stefen, a former high school PE teacher who went to teach at the French high school in Kuala Lumpur in the capital of Malaysia. He simply invited us to take part in a UNSS Asian Volleyball Cup in Singapore”, explains Estelle Doste. An invitation and a gift that fell from the sky which obviously delighted the section of the Couffignal-Leygues high school, its management but also the headmaster Bernard Duzan.

This UNSS (National Union of School Sport) competition takes place in Singapore from February 6 to 13, 2023 and brings together high school students from Phnom Pen (Cambodia), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Bali (Indonesia), Vientiane (Laos), Bangkok (Thailand ), Seoul (Korea), Kyoto (Japan), Hong Kong (China) and Singapore of course. “We had discussions by videoconference with Yohan Roiret, PE teacher at the French high school in Singapore last May to fine-tune the last little details of the stay” continues Estelle Doste. The Villeneuvoise delegation will put down its suitcases for a week in Kuala Lumpur and will be accommodated with families of high school students for joint training, the discovery of the city but also of a new culture and in order to better recover from jet lag. It will then be time to enter the competition and represent the bastide as well as possible during an Asian Cup which promises to be tough. 21 high school students will have the happiness of living this incredible dream through their passion for volleyball but also enriching exchanges with high school students from all over the Pacific-Asia zone.

In order to finance their trip to the Asian continent and make ends meet, many actions have been organized by Villeneuve high school students, including the sale of cakes during the inauguration of the beach volleyball court or on the Place Lafayette market, but also organizing a lottery.

“We have also organized an online kitty. Just go to the solidarity platform “trousseaprojets”, click to support the project and search for Asian cup volleyball Villeneuve.” Financial aid has also been requested or is about to be in the direction of the Departmental and Regional services of the UNSS, the town hall of Villeneuve-sur-Lot, the regional council, the Maison des lycéens and clubs. premises where our young people train.

“We are really counting on the generosity and the support of the people of Villeneuve so that this vast project can succeed”, concludes Estelle Doste.
