Women’s volleyball: Objective accomplished for Bleu Marin

The Bleu Marin first took the measure of the Portageuses of Rivière-du-Loup in a five-set match. Trailing two sets to one, the Gaspé team overcame a 21-24 deficit in the fourth set to win 26-24 and force a final set which they won 15-12 .

The second game on Saturday ended in a loss of three sets to one against the Gauloises of Cégep de La Pocatière. However, the Bleu Marin recovered well on Sunday morning with a win in four sets against the St. Lawrence College Lions in the Quebec City region.

“We are very happy with the team’s performance given the absence of several key players due to injuries or COVID,” said Bleu Marin head coach Dave Lavoie, who could only count on a small delegation of eight players for the weekend.

The Bleu Marin therefore ends the season with a record of four wins and six losses to take sixth place out of the ten teams in its division. “We managed to achieve that we could belong to this league with a mid-ranking positioning in our very first season. Over the year, we have established a culture and our own style of play by dealing with a mix of local players and players from elsewhere in Quebec, most of whom are registered in Adventure Tourism Techniques. I am confident that with the end of COVID, a fixed schedule, the arrival of a good contingent of players of 5e high school and keep our fingers crossed, a team less affected by injuries, we will be able to have a better result next season and aim for a participation in the championship of the northeast section” commented coach Lavoie.

Bleu Marin’s official season on the RSEQ college circuit has come to an end due to the withdrawal of the classification tournament from the Northeast Championship, a consequence of the loss of two months of activity. The team will complete its campaign with a friendly intercollegiate tournament with the Carleton campuses and the Cégep de Matane on Sunday 1uh May in Carleton.
